German programs across Canada adapt to new trends / Les programmes d'Allemand tout autour du Canada: modes et tendances

The recession that hit North America in 2008 has taken its toll on the university system. Smaller language programs have closed and German programs have also suffered, particularly in the United States.
Canadian post-secondary institutions have fared better than those in the U.S. On the whole German programs across the country are stable although the trend has been towards larger units comprised of a number of foreign language programs.
